RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution approving the 2022 Citywide Records Retention Schedule.
|
BACKGROUND
California Government Code Section 34090 provides that certain City records, instruments or documents may be destroyed with the approval of the City Council by resolution and written consent of the City Attorney. The Citywide Records Retention Schedule is updated and maintained by the City Attorney's office to direct City staff in regards to the retention of both physical and electronic records. This year's updates are routine in nature.
|
FISCAL IMPACT
Maintaining a records retention schedule which allows for the destruction of specified types of documents after a certain period of time will likely result in unspecified reductions to document storage and retrieval costs. There is no cost to the General Fund.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) does not apply to activities that will not result in a direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, or is otherwise not considered a project as defined by CEQA Statute §21065 and CEQA State Guidelines §15060(c)(3) and §15378. Adoption of an updated Citywide Records Retention Schedule meets the above criteria and is not subject to CEQA. No additional environmental review is required.
