RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL
Staff recommends Council approve travel for two Public Works Department staff members to attend the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) World Workplace Conference and Expo in Florida in October of 2021.
|
BACKGROUND
The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) World Workplace Conference and Expo was originally scheduled to be held in Anaheim, California. Due to the uncertainty of California’s COVID requirements IFMA decided to move the conference to Florida.
Attending this conference will provide development opportunities for the City’s facility professionals. World Workplace will provide staff with new ideas, tactics and strategies for facility improvements.
The four-day event features sessions led by facility management and business experts, educators, authors and workplace innovators. Sessions are categorized by topic areas, allowing staff to customize a learning program specific to their job responsibilities and our facility concerns.
Over three days, staff will take advantage of 45+ hours of education on:
• Designing for well-being
• Post-COVID19 lessons learned
• Writing business continuity plans
• Crisis communications
• How to slash expert service costs
• Women in facility management
• Building better workplaces post-pandemic
• How to start talking about diversity and inclusion at work
• New insights from The Experts’ Assessment
• Facility managers as disruptors
• Managing a hybrid workforce
|
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for travel and lodging costs for two Public Works staff members is estimated to be $6,000. Funding is included in the FY2021-22 operating budget in the Facility Services Fund.

ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) does not apply to activities that will not result in a direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, or is otherwise not considered a project as defined by CEQA Statute §21065 and CEQA State Guidelines §15060(c)(3) and §15378. Approval of out-of-state travel meets the above criteria and is not subject to CEQA. No additional environmental review is required.
